Welcome to the Friends of Runnymede Park
"We care, because we all leave tracks."
The mission of the Friends of Runnymede Park is to protect, enhance, and preserve the physical, natural, and cultural heritage of this special public parkland in the Town of Herndon.
Throughout the year we will be offering guided walks in the park, highlighting birds, native plants, insects, frogs.
These will be posted on our Facebook page - be sure to Like us.
Winter birds are here and Jonathan Lacher will lead an educational walk through the park to see how many we can find. Meet in the parking lot at 8:00am and the walk will end around 10:00am. Wear sturdy footwear. Bring binoculars if you have them, but if you don’t, we have some to lend. No fee or registration required.
Annual Meeting, Sunday, March 10, 4:15 PM - 6:00 PM
The public is invited to attend our Annual Meeting on March 10, 2019, which will be held in the Herndon Community Center, Community Room 1, from 4:15 to 6pm. This is a change from the last few years, due to the nature of our program, “Save Lucy,” with guest speaker, Leslie Sturges. "Lucy" is a Little Brown Bat growing up and facing the threat of white-nose syndrome, a cold-loving fungus that attacks bats while they are hibernating. Leslie’s program will focus on the amazing abilities of bats, the crucial role they play in our ecosystem, and why it is important to “Save Lucy.” It is designed for adults and children, and we will be able to see live bats.
